Miss Vel? On Silena Beauregard's post, you said that you had experience with guns, and... would you be willing to teach me?
[ there were a few others who volunteered for it on Silena's advertisement, but Tsera Vel is the only one she's seen in action at all. she had a collected disposition during that mess in New Rio. if someone is going to teach Elizabeth to fire a gun, they should probably balance out her nerves. ]
I'll be honest, I have an aversion to firearms. I don't want to kill. But I want to know how to handle them in case I ever need to. Better to learn now than in an emergency. I don't know if I can really offer anything in return for your time, but if there is anything I can do, I'd be more than happy to.
Tsera's fine; if you'd like, you can trade by teaching me how to sew. Because I can't.
[ miss dewitt, young and strangely resilient. one of the younger members of the new rio expedition, though outside of that and her commentary on silena's post - cheris knows little about her. she double checks it, just to see what elizabeth has to offer. ]
And, don't worry - I'll teach you. I wouldn't have offered if I wasn't willing. What sort of exposure have you had to firearms?
My exposure? Getting shot at. A lot. There was a man who accompanied me back home that was comfortable with pretty much any kind of weapon, too. Ex-military. But he did everything to protect me, so I never needed to even think about learning to use one.
You can come work out math with me, too. For fun, rather than repayment.
I won't say he was right or wrong for withholding the knowledge from you. The only one who is able to decide whether they can take up a weapon is oneself. What's interesting to know about guns is that - just because you have one, it doesn't make you any more safe or secure. If anything, it makes a situation that much more dangerous.
Sounds like we'll make good company. And you're correct. That's one of the reasons. The more weapons on a scene, the quicker things can escalate. Even if you're the only one, chances are you're only as safe as you are attentive. So, I'm going to teach you how to use a gun AND how to respond to someone who has one. Sound good?
Hey there. I know this is weird, but stay with me. I'm a Morningstar agent, new to New Amsterdam, and Gaby gave me a rundown of that kidnapping mess. I did some digging into the merc groups, and I wanted to pass it along to you. This isn't everything, though. For everyone's safety, I decided to spread out the information a bit. It means you'll have to do some organizing, but I hope this helps.
[ Attached is a list of implant IDs—all Displaced. Cheris might recognize that these are all people who went to a gate, whether willingly or otherwise. Beside each name is more unsettling information, such as their employers and job titles, and even where they live. For the Displaced who went to the gates willingly, or planned to, there are also attached travel itineraries, with notes on the best time and place to pick them up and divert them to other destinations if necessary.
Emphasized here is the fact that, ideally, there should be an equal number of Displaced traveling to each gate, and that those receiving this memo should feel free to do whatever it might take to make that happen. ]
What did Gabriel Reyes ever do you to spark that idea, by the way?
[ it was brilliant. also a great way to beat on him ]
I'm working on changing hearts and minds, in here. Clarke and I put together a team that's trying to bolster AI approval ratings. I mean, we want it to do other things too, but that seemed like a good spot to start.
Cassius seems to think El can do something about Judas' sanity. I was in prison for six months and I watched people arrive after me lose their minds with hopelessness. El will have his hands full.
Earth will never believe again that Judas has been eradicated so as long as El can assure us that Judas will remain in safe hands, there is no real point in killing him.
I guess I'll need to speak to El and Cassius, then. I don't see the sense in killing him either; maybe putting him on an empty colony or something. Like you, I understand what a lengthy imprisonment will do to someone. And I really do want to talk to Judas, too.
I can work on that. Someone else already pointed me in her direction, and now that the crisis has been managed a little, I think I have enough room to make some moves on her.
If you or Cassius have anything I can use - either as leverage against her OR to promise her in exchange for the information - I'd appreciate it. I'd prefer the latter, to be frank. I'm going to try to coax the information out of her, but if she clams up, I doubt we have time to do anything other than pry her open at the seams.
We can tie Johann to her, he was behind the EMP according to Cassius and now possibly facilitating Judas' revenge considering he was the last person in possession of Judas. We have proof of their meetings and that Jovavich depends on him.
And Johann might be a clone and that's illegal. A scientist betting her entire political campaign on how she can use her scientific background to help the city and Mars, cavorting with a clone brings up a lot of ethical questions.
That might rattle her.

[ oh my god has nobody checked on the political power ]
Not to my knowledge. Do you know of anyone in here who's relatively close to her or Taylor?
I don't want to go lunging at every politician now, not after Jovavich. She'll know my face, I want to keep 'damage by association' to a minimum. Just in case.
Hello. We spoke during the recent simulation into this place's past. I was wondering if you would be interested in getting dinner sometime? Just as a social thing.
There's a restaurant called 'Wild and the Moon' that I recently read great reviews of, if you don't mind going somewhere unknown to me. Otherwise I can suggest a few noodle places that are all within walking distance of the hospital.

I suppose it would cause the situation to escalate much faster?
People tend to be more reckless when weapons are involved, guns more so than anything.

We're going to pin Judas on the UNA. They deserve it.

The UNA did exploit him, it's a safe bet to loop him back on them. What will happen to him once you do?
